Tom made his sailing debut with a 1 week off shore training class and then in 1982 took delivery of a new Mackinaw 35. He spent the next year and a half learning and cruising. Taking "Elessar" from Grand Traverse Bay in Michigan to winter in the Bahamas and back to Michigan the next Spring. [...] Doris had been raised on an inland lake in Michigan, spent her youth traveling with her parents and the boat club they belonged to logging 1000's of miles on inland lakes and waterways from Michigan to Kentucky. They met in Lansing Michigan, got married on Mackinaw Island in 1984 and spent the next 7 months taking "Elessar" to the Bahamas and back. 22 years later, Tom has convinced Doris to take a sabbatical from work and make the world their destination.
