Leaving Purrrfect in Spain
17 July 2014 | Sant Carles de la Rapita
Our last overnight passage from Barcelona to Sant Carles de la Rapita was calm and beautiful with a fantastic full moon.
We were delighted to find this lovely marina is operated by a British company and is very well run. We enjoyed clean wonderful showers on shore and stayed comfortable in the hot afternoons at the marina infinity swimming pool. While we were there for one week, we got some minor repair work on the boat lined up and found a good bicycle shop in town to rent bikes for several days. And we ordered new folding bicycles to be delivered when we return the end of August. We purposely ordered plain black bikes since our other bikes which were stolen in Marseille had been bright blue and bright red. We don't want to attract any attention to our bikes in the future.
The trip home to CA on July 18 started with a 5:30 am taxi pick up for the train station 15 minutes away. The train to Barcelona was a quiet fast train for just 13.65 euros each. We changed trains in Barcelona station for a train to the airport where we took a shuttle to our terminal and caught our flight to Atlanta at 11:40 am. After a close connection because of crowded slow lines for customs and immigration in Atlanta, we boarded the final leg for LAX where we landed 22 hours after we left the boat. We are home now for 6 weeks to avoid the heat and crowds of Spain and to enjoy some time with our families and friends.
Future plans are to return to the boat the end of August, sail southern Spain, out the Straits of Gibraltar, the coast of Morocco and to the Canary Islands, where we will join the Atlantic Rally for Cruisers group in setting sail across the Atlantic Ocean for the Caribbean, back in the Western Hemisphere after 3 years in the Mediterranean.
