Enjoying Gibraltar

The best thing about Gibraltar was connecting with good friends, Stuart and Anne on Time Bandit. We first met them and enjoyed their Scottish accent over 2 years ago when we both crossed the Atlantic Ocean with the ARC Europe (Atlantic Rally for Cruisers) We have stayed in email contact and discovered that Time Bandit is also crossing back to the Caribbean in November. So once again we will be "crossing buddies".
Gibraltar is a good place for re-provisioning and boat repairs - although not cheap. We found a huge market, Eroski, that did boat deliveries so Linda made a list of canned goods to use on the Atlantic Crossing. We also enjoyed the British supermarket, Morrison's, which had wonderful things that we hadn't seen in years.
Dave found a knowledgeable alternator repairman. Working together they isolated the problem which had caused our regulators to quit 25 miles from Sant Carles Spain. Now we can more efficiently charge our batteries when motoring.
We rode our bicycles all over Gibraltar and even found a street named "Witham's Road". We rode our bicycles to the Spanish town of La Linea, to re-connect with Eric, a South African friend from 2 years ago. To cross the border between Spain and Gibraltar requires crossing (bikes, cars and pedestrians) the Gibraltar International Airport runway. Then one has to show a passport (in each direction) and be subject to potential search for excess duty-free alcohol or cigarettes. Despite both countries being in the EU, it seems they are still fighting the war over "the Rock" from hundreds of years ago.
We also enjoyed Steak and Ale pie and fish and chips. A good piece of Britain in the Med!
Dave also found a street on the map named "Witham Road" so we drove our bicycles to find and have Dave's photo taken there.
