Back in the Caribbean
23 February 2015 | St Lucia
Linda
When we returned on February 18, 2015, to the boat in St Lucia's Rodney Bay Marina, we had a momentary heart attack, when the boat was missing from the mooring buoy where we had left her. Then we learned from the marina security guard that the marina caretaker had moved "Purrrfect" to a marina berth to clean her up for our arrival. How wonderful to climb aboard a cleanly scrubbed boat with polished stainless!
We also reconnected with good friends, Stuart and Anne on "Time Bandit" and enjoyed a welcome back dinner together.
Two days later the 4 of us joined the St Lucia Yacht Club Race Around the Island. We knew with a catamaran handicap and all our heavy live-aboard gear that we would not do well in the 2 day race. But we joined for the fun -- and challenge. The beat around the north end of the island and the 9 foot seas on the Atlantic coast were more difficult than most of our 16 days of the Atlantic crossing! We enjoyed anchoring off the small fishing village in the south side of the island at Laborie and watching the St Lucia Independence Day celebration complete with a children's steel drum band.
After some reprovisioning and boat set up in the next few days. we left St Lucia on February 24 via an overnight passage of 80 miles north to the island of Dominica.
