We shared a short 3 day trip to the beautiful colonial city of Antigua, Guatemala, with cruisers Cindy and Gary from Sereno II. The 4 of us endured an hour taxi ride to El Tunco where we boarded a shuttle van for the rest of the 5 hours to Antigua Guatemala. Unfortunately neither the taxi or shuttle had air conditioning, so we spent the long day in very hot humid wind similar to a blast furnace.
Antigua is in the mountains so when we arrived at dusk, the cool mountain air was very welcome
Antigua was beautiful and it is difficult to select the best photo because there were so many churches from the colonial Spanish period of 1600 – 1800. There is a local photographer with a wonderful website called “Antigua Daily Photo” that we recommend to get a flavor for the city. Our boutique hotel “El Convento” was a beautifully restored convent and the rooftop garden was a cool oasis after walking around the town sightseeing.
As we left Antigua two mornings later, Dave watched as one of the volcanoes started spewing smoke and ask. It definitely is an active area of volcanic activity.
