After two more day sails to anchorages on the south tips of two islands (Salinas point on Acklins Island and South Point on Long Island), we arrived at the small harbor of Clarencetown on Long Island. The charts, both electronic and in the guide books, showed a very tight zig-zag harbor entrance. We were still learning to recognize the water colors which indicate coral heads and bright turquoise for shallow sandy bottom. Luckily the Flying Fish Marina was available on the VHF and they assured us that the dark water in the harbor was deep enough and all grassy, so we made our way to tie up at the dock in 5 feet of water. Once we were tied up, we noticed that the shallow water at the marina contained LOTS of sharks. In the evening someone came out to feed the sharks, and it creates quite an attraction there. We did NOT feel like swimming.
