Ocracoke Music Festival
01 July 2016
Jim and Nancy Sauer once again came down to Saltayre from St. Louis to go with us to the Annual Ocracoke Music Festival. It was a lovely day for the sail to Ocracoke, but as it always seems to happen, light wind on our nose most of the way so we motored all but about an hour. Arrived around 2 in the afternoon and anchored in Silver Lake. It is always crowded, but still room to find an anchorage. The festival, draws many visitors from all over and NC increases the number of ferries to the island for it. Went to shore in the evening for the Festival Bar-B-Que and enjoyed getting back to Ocracoke, walking around town and relaxing for the next couple days program. One of our favorite venues is the main stage at Live Oak. The stage and music goes all day into the night and it is right next to the main festival street for parade, dancers and many small venues and booths. It had been raining for days before the festival, storms had kept some people away, and a group from Pamlico Plantation had turned around and gone home due to the storm conditions.
