Visitors to North Carolina
26 August 2016 | Saltayre - Home Port
Late July and Early August resulted in a busy two weeks in North Carolina as we continued working on new equipment for the boat and had visitors ready for a sail. In late July, John's granddaughter Jacqueline, brought seven of her friends down from St. Louis. To get the feel of the place, they all kayaked, went to Atlantic Beach in Morehead City and prepared for a sail to Ocracoke. Together with John's daughter Jenny, and Katie two of the parents of the girls, they set sail with all aboard for Ocracoke Island. Most of the girls, all 17, had never sailed before, so Bonine all around to insure no sea-sickness and they did extremely well. The sail went great, with a modest breeze and smooth seas arriving at Silver lake about 3 PM, and we quickly found a berth at the government docks. The girls loved the island, immediately began exploring, mostly looking for boys, but they found lots of places to experience, and did everything from biking to the beach, to para-sailing, sightseeing to finding pizza and shopping the boutiques as well as meeting some of the islands teenagers. After three days, the sail home to Saltayre was a little rougher, but they handled it well, and after the exhausting time on Ocracoke slept much of the sail back.
