Finally underway !
15 November 2016 | River Dunes - Grace harbor Marina
What a frustrating week, arriving saltayre ready to get on the boat we found the heating unit had gone out at the house. Heat exchanger bad, lucky under warranty, but still won't have parts available for a week. So we lived with wood fires for a few days, not bad and kind of romantic, fire in the living room, another in the bedroom! But then of all times breaker for power on the dock dies !!! Spent two days getting it working, running the generator for power to conserve battery. Even slept on the boat one night to keep generator going all night. Finally resolved, new breakers and switch to 110v connection just to keep batteries charged. Of course there is also a low pressure system moving north along the coast, so in the end would have delayed a departure anyway ! Finally set off today, left Saltayre this morning bound for River Dunes, One of our favorite marinas, got in about 3 this afternoon, pump out, fuel filled, water filled and all is great on the good ship Joy! Tomorrow we will travel to Beaufort Inlet, going out in the afternoon with slack tide and head for Charleston. Weather looks good, although we may need to motor sail as wind light. We anticipate 35-40 hours to Charleston, one full day and two nights, arriving early morning with incoming tide and scheduled for a slip at Cooper River Marina. It's a longer off shore run than we have done before with just Diana and myself, but we have been working out sleep schedule and with light conditions expect to be fine. For tonight, plugged in, warm, nice dinner and lots to do getting ready for an off shore passage.
