Artistic Havana
11 March 2017 | Sculpture on the Malecon
Cuba has a wonderful artistic heritage, Writers, poets, sculptors, painters are scattered everywhere, and as a pedestrian City it is staggering how many small parks, pedestrian median streets, and statues adorn the City. The Ave of the Presidents, and the Paseo streets criss-cross every district with a rich tapestry of memorials and commemorative squares. The City Historian, Eusebio Leaf Spengler has made enormous strides to preserve the rich architectural heritage of Havana, while at the same time make the City a "Living" center with schools, and social systems provided mixed into the restored fabric of the City. It is interesting to walk many of the neighborhoods, we found musicians practicing in the shade of a memorial statue, and throngs of people using the internet in the parks and public squares. Internet is not readily available, you have to buy a ticket for time, and generally the only place to connect is in the public parks.
