Even in Paradise we sometimes have to wait
28 February 2018 | Governor's Harbour
We have been traveling continuously for the last few days, but now it looks like weather has again caught up with us and we are in for a blow over the next 4-5 days. At Royal we considered a number of possibilities, move into Spanish Wells for a few days or move on south to Eleuthera and Governors Harbour. We contacted our friends Chris and Robin on Cerulean who had gone back to Nassau for refrigeration repairs and found out that they had finished the repairs and were just south of us anchored at the north end of Eleuthera. We all decided to move on to Governors Harbour, meet there and sit out the coming weather for what looks like most of the next week. It is about a 50 mile run to get to Governors Harbour and we up anchor to leave right away. The winds and seas were ideal for a lovely sail about 14 miles west to Fleeming Passage a tidal current between islands where we turned south through the shallow passage then east toward Governors Harbour. Unfortunately the last 30 miles had wind on our nose and we motored all the way. It was a smooth run across the banks, arriving about 7 PM after dark. Governors Harbour is a wide open entrance with good protection from the east, north and south so we ran in to a good spot and dropped anchor, settled down for the night and figured we could re-anchor to a better position in the morning.
In the morning we woke to a lovely bright day, anchored in front of French Leave Resort, previously Club Med, and boats scattered throughout the harbour. Governor's has a reputation for poor holding, and we moved further toward shore in sand on the north end where no one else goes. We found clear sand and good holding to stay protected over the next few days.
