2008 - Martinique

We were again very fortunate to be able to sail in exotic places with friends. Tom McMaster and Rose Hansmeyer, on their sailboat Sojourn, had left Duluth in 2006, out through the Erie Canal, down the Intercoastal waterway, checked out the Bahamas and sailed their way down the Caribbean. We joined them in February in Martinique. We flew to San Juan, Puerto Rico, spent the night and took a small plane into Martinique. It was fascinating watching the wave patterns from the plane, and how they form and change around islands. We timed our stay perfectly and joined in on Carnival fun! We snorkeled at Grand Anse, hiked around the peninsula at Le Marin, rented a car to explore the inland of the island and finished up at Les Trois Islets. It was a fabulous trip and quite the learning experience being on-board a sailboat fitted out and dedicated to the cruising life. The biggest rule on-board - we could not go in the refrigerator!
Total sailing days: 10 - 55 NM sailed
