Enough with working on the boat - this was a summer for sailing. Our friends Jack and Penny helped us bring Nokomis back to Schooner Bay in the Apostle Islands. We had a great time on the weekends sailing around our old sailing grounds, visiting the lighthouses and hiking on the islands. Granddaughter Katy came up for some R & R and we explored Raspberry Island. Heather & Joaquin came up for the Fourth of July festivities. We watched fireworks off the back of the boat using funkadelic glasses. Joaquin, who was only 5 at the time, was determined to jump off the boat into the water, so we all joined in. The water was biting cold, refreshing to say the least!
Our big trip this summer included Paul's son Gibbs and his family. Maddie, our 13 year old granddaughter, did the overnight sail up to Spar Island (Canada) and then up to Sleeping Giant and back down to Isle Royale. She was enjoyable to have on board. Beside becoming a master biscuit baker she also developed into a fine sailor. We sailed to Grand Portage and picked up Gibbs, Tina and Gus and had quite the storm as we did an overnighter up to Rock Harbor on Isle Royale. We had a great time exploring the area. I found the old blueberry patch, but disappointingly, only a couple of berries were left. We finished off the season bringing Nokomis back to the Duluth harbor.
Total sailing days: 46 - 908 NM sailed
