Nokomis and the fishing fleet
06 July 2013 | Black Sod Pier
Our plan was to leave Friday afternoon as the weather was sunny and good. Kevin of Kelly Heroes, one of the great fisherman down at the pier, convinced us to stay - the weather was going to turn bad - and also convinced us to bring Nokomis over to the pier instead of the mooring ball. And then Michael of Rose Ann, tied up his boat outside of ours, which really meant we could not leave. Turns out that was an excellent choice. Later, while enjoying a pint at Una's pub , another boat was heading in the area close to where we would have been. They took on a lot of water, escaped in their life raft and the boat sank. Luckily they were within five miles of the RNLI station and were rescued relatively quickly. So we have much thanks to the locals for keeping us safe.
