Stormy weather
20 August 2013 | North-side of Orkney

Mid-August and it is near the end of the normal sailing season this far north. The lows start gathering and coming through with wind and rain. We were harbor-bound in Stromness longer then we liked. If you want to see some video of high-winds that I took, friend me on facebook. Yesterday we marshaled our forces and headed out through the Scarpa flow, east through the notorious Pentland Firth and north along Orkney. We found a snug anchorage in the dark and had a great night sleep rocking to the waves. We traveled 45 nm, however, it was only 15 nm as a crow flies. Today we head to Eday for some great hiking.
Have I mentioned the saying that cruising is a matter of doing boat repair in exotic places? Well, on this day, the repair Paul made to the traveler blew out, thankfully as we were just about to take the sail down. So at anchor Paul and Tom made a permanent repair and all is good.
