Fickle weather

We left Stonehaven with the plan of anchoring at Holy Island. This was the site of a monastery that had St. Aidan, St. Cuthbert and the Lindisfarne gospels and there is a connection to the monastery on Iona, an island on the west side of Scotland that we had visited previously. But when we were almost there, the weather guy announced there would be a period of winds from the southeast, and wouldn't you know, that is the only direction the anchorage would be open. So we sailed on by and ended up in Blyth.
Blyth was a big coal mining town but all the mines have shut down over the last 30 years and there is persistent unemployment problems. But we have met some wonderful people at the Royal Northumberland Yacht Club who have driven us around helping us with propane issues. We even had dinner at Alan's home and watched a little British telly, a cooking show by the Hairy Biker Guys.
We are back in the land of large tidal ranges. The pictures are at the marina - same spot - shows the difference between low and high tide.
