On the way down
07 June 2014 | Neptune's Staircase
Vicki
The beautiful weather is holding, only rain when we are asleep. We passed through Loch Lochy, the final lake for us. Plenty of sunshine and no wind so the lake was smooth. The southwestern end is a series of 8 locks called Neptune's Staircase. We were the only boat in the locks so it was uneventful and again, we walked along the canal, pulling Nokomis from one lock to the next. All with Ben Nevis hovering in the background.
I have to say, we have not met a single grouchy lock master. They are all very friendly, helpful and great to talk with. They clue you in what to expect next. They also radio ahead and let the next lock master know you are coming.
Our trip, sad to say, through the Caledonian Canal is almost at an end, and then it will be back to salt water.
