Sailing around the Caribbean

In 2007 our family sailed from the Chesapeake Bay to the Caribbean, visiting most of the islands and stopping in Cartagena, Colombia for hurricane season. We just returned to the Chesapeake after visiting many Central American countries and islands.

Antigua Posting Daniels First Letterbox

15 February 2008 | At English Harbour Nelson's Dockyard
Letterboxing is a hobby that started in England in the 1950's and more recently has become popular in the US, particularly in the West. When we were in Puerto Rico we searched for and found our first Letterbox. Daniel has become very interested in this "hunting game" in which one learns about a specific place or location as one tries to find the hidden box. Typically the clues to find a box would have one walk to specific places that have some historic, amusing or entertaining value. It is a fun way to learn about a place. For more information about letterboxing go to www.letterboxing.org. This is the US website for letterboxing which includes international locations like the Caribbean.

We all loved this hobby and Daniel decided that it would be fun to place a box ourselves. There are few boxes in the Lesser Antilles and none in Antigua. Because of the significance of Nelson's Dockyard in English Harbour we decided to leave a box there. Therefore, Daniel and Kim researched the area, found a spot to put the box which is well hidden (while not disturbing nature or its surroundings) from casual passer byes or workers. If you wish to read about the box and its clues you can find it under "Search for Boxes", region "Lesser Antilles" in the website above. The box is called "Nelson's Dockyard", placed by "DaBoxer", nearby city "English Harbour, Antigua, LSA".
