Sailing around the Caribbean

In 2007 our family sailed from the Chesapeake Bay to the Caribbean, visiting most of the islands and stopping in Cartagena, Colombia for hurricane season. We just returned to the Chesapeake after visiting many Central American countries and islands.

Around Trinidad with Mike & Bev Scotland Bay

12 April 2008 | Mike & Bev in Kikuyu's Cockpit at Scotland Bay
We picked up our good friends Mike and Bev at the Port of Spain airport after their 5:30 am flight arrival. Traveling to the airport was interesting as there were two major forks in the highway with no signs indicating which one lead to the airport - we lucked out and picked the correct route. This gave us practice for the next day, Sunday, when we would have to drop Kim and Daniel back at the airport for them to fly to the US for work (Kim) and boy scouts' events (Daniel).

After arriving at the marina and eating breakfast, we got Kikuyu ready to sail a short distance to Scotland Bay near the Boca de Monos entrance. The day was rainy and misty but it provided for foggy and romantic sights of ships and the bay. Scotland bay is surrounded by the Chaguaramas National Park and is reported to have monkeys and birds native to Trinidad. We were hopefully to spot some but, given the low visibility and our inability to get off to the shore (our dingy was being repaired) we did not see any wildlife. Nevertheless we enjoyed the calm and romantic views of the bay.
