More running about today as I needed to get the Banda Acha card refilled. Took a rather entertaining budget bus ride down to the Mega and walked over to the local Telcel office.
Just a quick note on the buses in Mazatlan- there are two kinds here, 9.5 pesos for an air-conditioned newer bus or 6 pesos for the bus everyone rides instead. Figuring out where they go is a matter of deciphering the white shoe polish hand-written sign on the window. It isn’t really that hard, but you have to be a pretty quick read if your Spanish is as poor as mine!
At the Telcel office they were very helpful and very forgiving of my linguistic butchery. It seems that about 20% of the customers in this day were gringos about half of those were fellow cruisers!
Our friend Gilberto, the water taxi driver, had our shrimp order ready for us when we got back- a kilo of cleaned, shelled and headed shrimp for 150 pesos (just a touch over $10 USD). A little more than when we bought them in November, but I understand that the season has slowed down and they catch about a tenth of what they do in the Fall.
Whipped up a Scampi that was just great this evening for dinner. It’s easy to be a good cook when your ingredients are so awesome.
