Heading out for the Keys
15 November 2012 | Ft. Myers Beach, Fl.
Christina & Dale, sunny and 79 deg.
After purchasing an additional dingy engine we also received the parts to fix the old one...:) so now we have two dingy engines. Oh well, better than no dingy engine! Weather is great for us to head out in the morning for Boot Key harbour, Marathon in the Fla. keys. This is a traditional staging area for those planning on crossing the gulf stream. From there we should only be 22 hours from Bimini, where we will check into the Bahamas. We plan to stay in Bimini for several days since it is one of our favorite spots.
If you are ever in Ft. Myers Beach be sure to eat at Nervous Nellie's. The food is awesome and the portions are generous. We have eaten there twice since being here and were not disappointed. There is also an awesome pier at the beach that we walk to almost every evening.
We rented a car and made a Sam's & Walmart run in addition to chasing down an engine prop and the means to attach it. The West Marine here is the largest and the best one we have ever been to. If you are ever here and need any help at West Marine, be sure and ask for Gary Leonhard, he is the perfect example of what all sales reps. should be. He will go out of his way to make sure you get what you are looking for. An additional word to the wise; take the extra time and minimal expense to order a spare prop for you dingy engine prior to cruising...:)
Although we love it here we will have been here a total of 12 nights, so we are itching to move.....
