We had an interesting night. We got to where we were going to anchor (near Beaufort,NC); wind was blowing 18 with guest to 20 to 22. We passed by a perfectly good anchorage, why I don't know.

We went to the 2nd anchorage and there were lots of boats anchored and several crab pots. Many boats looked like they were derelict boats. We found a spot but there was one crab pot that I was concerned about. We dropped the hook and had it set, but not knowing how the boats would swing, I was not comfortable with the crab pot and where we were in relation to other boats.

We pulled up the anchor and tried another spot but did not like it. I circled and ran aground turning in the small basin. I remember thinking that's what that red was for! That was about 7:00PM and low tide was about 9:30PM. We sat there and had supper and about 11:30PM we floated off.

Now in the time there, I had plenty of time for studying the boats swing. Now where did we go anchor in the dark, right back to our first spot? Just goes to show that it pays to study your opponent, in this case the wind, crab pots and other boats anchored.

We now have the perfect spot in a basin near Town Creek Marina on the north side of Beaufort, NC. We plan to take our bikes to shore and go get more water, wine and coffee. We will send pictures of the cart after I figure out how to put it on the bike.

All in all, we all know that this trip is, has been, and gonna be great, and even in the times like last night, we still love it and have really enjoyed it.

More fun to come.

About: We have been full-time liveaboards for five years and we are career professional educators. We will retire within the next five years and plan to cruise the eastern coast and Caribbean. During our 2015 summer vacation from school we plan to travel from Beaufort, SC to the Chesapeake.
Extra:
Our first sailboat was a Cal 34, which we named Cest La Vie. Sailboats are sort of like houses where you start off small and eventually move up to a larger one with more bells and whistles. Cest La Vie will always hold a special place in our hearts as she taught us how to sail and cruise, and was [...]
