Hello Charleston!
10 July 2021 | Charleston Harbor
Pete and Susan Owens | 84 and 12 knot evening winds
As we woke to the early sounds of bird songs it began a guessing game as to where the various singers were holding concert. The whole marsh land looked so vast now that the tide had filled in. First call of duty but only after coffee was to get the dinghy down , load Elliott and drive until suitable grounds for business could be done. Elliott's business! A stretch of beach seemed to fill the bill and Elliott ventured out to explore it. The dinghy thingy has become so necessary. It's our car, our Uber to shore. Whether it's a beach, a dock or another boat one finds it invaluable something you can't just do without.
Today's journey north only took us 43 miles to the Charleston inlet. originally the course was to Dewee Island inlet. I failed to recognize the bridge crossing had a restrictive height of 26 feet. Our mast being 52 obviously would not clear so Charleston was a better option than sailing 100 miles to Georgetown. Today's light winds and higher Temps would have made for a mutiny on the high seas had we attempted the longer distance. We settled for an Anchorage not far from Fort Sumter. we were surprised at how many boats visit this site by water.
The traffic coming into Charleston harbor was intense. pleasure boats of all sizes, tugs, trawlers and full on sailing regattas. We felt like getting out of everyone's way so not to interfere or get flattened. Now anchored we wait for an early start. destination Georgetown.
