This morning was once again cold but we quickly warmed up the boat since we had shore power. We waited for the fog to lift and just as we cast off the dock, the railroad bridge came down for a train and 2 railroad work trucks. We did donuts for almost about 45 minutes until we were underway. We called Pokie Lallande as we went thru the Bayou Boeuf locks (a new friend and family of our dear friends back home. Since we did not fuel up at Shell Landing, we took on fuel just a little ways east of the locks and met more family of our friends, the Lallande's. We had an interesting trip to Houma. This part of the ICW is very industrial so we saw where barges are not only repaired but where they are built.
Getting local knowledge, we kept our eyes open for gators as we passed thru Black Bayou. I think all the gators are hibernating at the bottom of the water. We didn't see any signs of them (till later). We spotted our first alligator just before arriving aft the docks. Picture to come later.
We arrived at the Houma downtown dock around 3pm. The ICW is narrow thru Houma and we saw tows pushing as many as 6 barges (2 side by side and 3 deep). The dock is next to a city park and is only available to pleasure boats so we there were no shrimp boats as there were in Morgan City. We were actually the only boat tied up. We were anxious to get wifi to download software emailed to us from Garmin that we couldn't download to our card reader using the iPhone or iPad so we walked to a nearby hospital and tried longing on to their guest access. No luck. Something on our computer was preventing us from accessing their login page. The signal wasn't strong enough to pick up from our boat's network. We will diagnose this problem later. We wanted to get the flavor of Louisiana for dinner so we went to a local diner only to find it closed for a private party. We walked a little further and ate at a Milano's, a nice Italian restaurant.
Our first meal off the boat since Galveston.
I think we had our best night of sleep since leaving Portofino this night. For once, we didn't wake up to a cold boat.
