Crossed to the other side
03 February 2014 | Marathon
Just dropped the hook at Boot Key, Marathon. Ed went to put us on a waiting list for a mooring ball.
Our last two anchorages were about 1/4 miles off the Gulf coast near a spit of land. I don't know of anywhere near Galveston where you can anchor just off the coast line. Pretty cool. We were greeted by a sea turtle at Indian key (the first anchorage). Other than that sea turtle, we saw no other sea creatures while anchored. The weather was so nice and no one else was around, so we even sun bathed. Sure beats the cold days we had in the ICW.
Our trip to Marathon was a mine field of crab pots we dodged thru. We watched the crab pot boat workers check and retrieve their catch. There were literally thousands of crab pots as far as you could see. Near the coast was some protected waters where the crab pots weren't allowed so we took advantage of that where we could.
We didn't see many dolphins but the ones we saw put on a show as the jumped and spun out of the water. Better than Sea World.
We were greeted by Dean from Our Way Too (Gulf xing buddies) and will be joining them for dinner. Life is good!
More about Marathon later with pictures.
