In the Bahamas
09 November 2014 | Ft. Lauderdale to Bimini
We took advantage of a good weather window and crossed from Port Everglades to Bimini on Nov 7. We left with another boat we met in Ft. Pierce at sunset on Friday and after motorsailing thru the night, we arrived in Bimini at 9 am. We opted to stay in the same marina as before, Bimini Bluewater. I wish we had chosen Brown's marina instead as it has been remodeled and is nicer than Bluewater which needs some TLC. Not that it is a big deal but the pool is out of service as are several of the restroom/showers. We took our walk-about with the crew of Second Star (the vessel who crossed with us). On our walk-about, we stopped and picked up coconut bread from Nate's up on the Queen's highway. We went to South Bimini to the shark lab which was very cool. It used to be run by the University of Miamai but no longer. It is run by donations. They tag and keep sharks in a pen for 2 weeks before releasing. We waded out to the pen where nurse and lemon sharks are kept for 2 week s before releasing them. Our guide, showed us a lemon shark. The shark was about 2 1/2 - 3' long so it was not very intimidating. Check out our shark experience in our picture gallery once we get it posted. We plan to sail to New Providence Wednesday, 11-12 arriving Thursday morning, then on to Norman's Cay.
