Sailing Sonaki

Scott's Cove Marina, Chesapeake Bay: Sonaki is currently on the hard for the winter. We need do perform some deferred maintenance this spring, 2015.

Sonaki is an Island Packet IP-32, 1991 model, not in Bristol condition but pretty good. We sail primarily in the Chesapeake plus 3 trips south so far: Oriental, NC, Georgetown, SC and Fernandina, FL.

This past year (2014) sailing has been slim because of a shoulder injury which necessitated surgery and the requisite physical therapy. I did crew on one trip this past summer to Connecticut with Captain Jeremy Hopkins of Marylandsailing.com. It's always a pleasure and a learning experience when crewing for Captain Jeremy. We delivered "S/V Amber Waves" a Pearson 33 from Deale Maryland to Branford, CT., via the C&D canal and Hell Kitchen. It is always exciting to sail by the Statue of Liberty.

I also sailed with my good friend Hugh Nicholson on this 26' boat. Hugh sailed single handed from Peterborough, Ontario to the Bahamas in 2012. We first met when holed up at buoy 13 on Hobucken, NC during Hurricane Sandy. Sandy tracked off the coast of NC, giving us a pass thus max winds in our hurricane hole reached only 40 knots.
