Ready to start the Trent-Severn

09 June 2013 | Trenton, Ontario
We departed Moore's after a great time of parties, card games, re-stocking JimKat, and great friendship. We can thank them enough for their hospitality. It was about a 5 hour cruise to Trenton where the canal to Georgian Bay starts.

When crossing under the Belleville bridge, we got a call from someone who saw JimKat. He said, "Is that a DeFever 45?" He was standing on his in a nearby marina. He and his wife joined us later in the evening in Trenton and we traded stories and information on the similarities, and differences, of our DeFevers.

Also at the Fraser Park Marina in Trenton we met a couple on "Slo M Ocean" who we had met this past winter in Marineland Florida. We plan to travel part of the canal with them. What a small world!!

Home from Cruising 2012

03 October 2012 | Winter Harbor Marina
This was a great summer with too many highlights to mention. We cruised for almost six months in six states and Washington, D.C. a total of 1990 miles with 278 hours on the main engines. Next year JimKat heads north to lakes Ontario, Huron, and Michigan. Destination: Milwaukee

Final Lock....in the rain

02 October 2012 | Erie Canal
All that is left after this lock is crossing Oneida Lake to reach "home" in Brewerton.

Guard Gates

01 October 2012 | Erie Canal
We passed thru five or six of these 'guard gates' which are used to control flooding. They are very narrow and have a guaranteed high of 20 feet. Note how close the big yacht is to all sides!

Free Wall at Lock 20

01 October 2012 | Erie Canal
This was a beautiful rainy spot above Lock 20 where we parked for the night.

Lift Gate Lock

29 September 2012 | Erie Canal
This is a unique lock where the door opens by going up, instead of typical doors. There are two of these in North American. We went through the other one on the Ottawa River in Ontario last year.
