Brandon’s (Lum) boat vacation

02 January 2009 | Curacao/Bonaire
by Brandon Lum
For winter break I went to the ABC islands I only went to Curacao and Bonaire. My dad and brother came too; we had to go on an airplane to Miami, then to Curacao [curasal]. Altogether the amount of hours on the airplane was 8 hrs.

When we finally got our baggage and did the paper work, we went outside to find the captain (Dave) of the 43foot catamaran that we spent 10 days on. It took us forever to get to the dock, then in a dingy to the boat.

As soon as we got to the boat, Dave's family greeted us. They were Wesley, Ryan, and Desiree. Wesley and Ryan were twins and were 13. Desiree was Dave's wife and "first mate". After everything was on the boat Wesley and Ryan showed us our room. Then Dave showed us how to work the toilet.

The next day we (the kids) went wake boarding.(when you attach a rope to a dingy and tow a inner tube) played in the 23ft. water , and went wind surfing during the time we were wind surfing Ryan stepped on a sea urchin and Wesley got stuck in the urchin area. Besides that it was loads of fun, the Adults liked t a lot too (maybe more than us kids).

A few days later we moved to Bonaire. My brother and I both got seasick though. What I really liked was how shallow the water was in many of the bays we went to. We went snorkeling and scuba diving often. A lot of the times we went snorkeling we were near an island and after a while went on the beach and found shells and sea glass. We were in Bonaire for New Years day too; We went to the front of the boat and watched fireworks that night. The next day we rented a car and explored the island many times, we saw a flamingo's reserve, iguanas, a butterfly farm, and a donkey. My favorite part of the trip was when we went to the back of the pickup truck that we rented and rode for some time. Then my dad stopped, right next to a HUGGGGGGGEEEEEE horse! We, the kids went "WHOA!!!" and I think my brother screamed. We all crowded at the opposite side, soon had enough courage to feed it and pet the horse. Anyway we had fun in Bonaire but we had to go back to Curacao.

We had already been to Curacao so we rented another car and went aboard the island. There we saw ostriches, caves full of bats, and went into town. Eventually we had to go back to California; I'm disappointed, but also glad to be back!
