19 months & counting

Trenten Reef Paul turned 19 months yesterday and I can hardly believe how quickly the time has past since his birth in Papeete, Tahiti. We have been on quite an adventure, as always.

Moorea

We have, (sadly), just dropped Christina and Nicola off at the airport in Tahiti after a week out anchored off the island of Moorea. What a wonderful week full of fun. The ladies hit the spa!, hiking and swimming with Sting Rays and Sharks. The water in Moorea is really clear blue hues. We had a [...]

Papeete, Tahiti

We are anchored off marina Taina in Papeete, the main city on the island of Tahiti. This is the only 'big city' (250,000) we have seen in several months. It is a mix of European French & casual islander. The large verdant island soars into the sky and is mostly surrounded by a coral barrier reef. [...]

Lancha trip from Rio Dolce to Livingston

Our trip over to the Caribbean coast was wonderful. It was an unexpected treat to visit the Rio Dolce. We were overwhelmed at how large the area is. We took a lancha (water taxi) down the Rio Dulce to the Caribbean town of Livingston. This was a little river side village about half way down the rio.

Along the way to the east coast we stopped at the ruins of Quirigua. The site was a great center of commerce for the Mayan. They built huge stone stalae that stand 35 ft tall and are engraved with stories based on five year increments of war and successful triumphs. Dole has bought up a lot of the land in this valley and we drove past one of their plantation along our way. (That isnt hard to do in Central America) We googled to find our habiationies (room for the night) and found a great little eco-lodge/marina in Rio Dolce. Perfect. We wanted to meet some true Rio Dolce cruisers! We were lucky and did meet a great group of people at the Hotel and Marina Tortugal - They shared their great experiences on the area. Many cruising yachts will hold over in the Rio Dolce for hurricane season and then sail the caribbean, Bay Islands, Belize or do the San Blas, Panama to Cartegena, Columbia route.
