19 months & counting

Trenten Reef Paul turned 19 months yesterday and I can hardly believe how quickly the time has past since his birth in Papeete, Tahiti. We have been on quite an adventure, as always.

Moorea

We have, (sadly), just dropped Christina and Nicola off at the airport in Tahiti after a week out anchored off the island of Moorea. What a wonderful week full of fun. The ladies hit the spa!, hiking and swimming with Sting Rays and Sharks. The water in Moorea is really clear blue hues. We had a [...]

Papeete, Tahiti

We are anchored off marina Taina in Papeete, the main city on the island of Tahiti. This is the only 'big city' (250,000) we have seen in several months. It is a mix of European French & casual islander. The large verdant island soars into the sky and is mostly surrounded by a coral barrier reef. [...]

Hiva Oa

11 April 2013 | Marquesas
Thank you for the wonderful comments and emails from everyone! The passage was fairly decent, we are glad it is over!

We have arrived in the Marquesas! Wow - We anchored in remote Fatu Hiva for a blissful couple of recovery days, took a nice swim under the 200 ft waterfall, collected some fruit and are now in Hiva Oa. Hiva Oa is one of the main islands with 1500 inhabitants. We hit the bakery and had authentic, just out of the oven, French baguette and visited Paul Gaugin's cemetary. The French painter spend many years here perfecting his art in the turn of the century - forever changing the history of art.

The island is quite large - rain has been falling nightly which has kept the tanks full!

Internet is slowwww... and very expensive. The 2013 Oyster ralley has finally pushed forward and has left the anchorages to a few of us 'different' boats. We may bump into the 28 boats in Tahiti in a months or so but for now we are on a different schedule. Anchorages were overcrowded in Santa Cruz and Fatu Hiva and Hiva Oa.
