Chill Day
Chilling starts to become very easy to slip into after a few days on vacation. Chilling on the boat in the Abacos takes this to a whole new level.
To start, do a little exercise by the pool. Yoga and swimming fit the recipe. Followed by golf cart rental, check, inflatable paddle board, check, sunscreen, towels, water, sunglasses, check., sunny blue sky's with temps in the mid 80's check and double check. Put the paddle board on the golf cart and head to the beach side of the island. You can not worry about overdoing any ingredient other than the sun but if you follow these simple steps and be sure to re-apply sunscreen at regular intervals you are sure to have a perfect chill day.
The point and cove are a perfect protected setting to get on the board and explore the area. The sand beach is pure white until you get closer to the waters edge. At that point it turns to a light blush color with areas a shade more pink as the water laps over the sand. The sand is soft under your feet and the water is vibrant in all the possible shades of blue you can imagine. Dark, medium, light blues to crystal clear then the shades of turquoise come into play. The variety of colors depends on the depth and type of bottom whether it is grass, seaweed, rock, pure white sand...well you get the picture. There is a small island out toward the opening to the ocean. So paddling to the island seemed like a great plan. As it turns out it was a great plan. Close to the island the depth was pretty shallow and there is a rocky entrance. If you recall this is an inflatable paddle board which has its definite upsides including ease of transport and its downsides, stay away from pointy objects like rocks. So around the island works but not stopping on the island. It was a great place to enjoy a paddleboard excursion. We packed up and headed for lunch at the Bluff House, at the Tranquil Turtle. After lunch and a nap. The nap is another key ingredient that you have to play by ear and just make it happen. It was just too beautiful to not do another paddleboard excursion on this side of the island. Packed up the board headed back to Kiwi II.
Once on board our neighbors on the dock happened by and we spent time meeting some great folks. Fred and Carol on Funhouse, Fred and Karen on Southerly II. We also met John and Betty Obradovich. They publish THE Bahamas & Caribbean Pilot's Guide. We use that book every time we fly to the Bahamas. Great to meet everyone, had some drinks and dinner and enjoyed great stories of everyone's adventures. We learned a lot and thank everyone for their gifts of wisdom. Fred and Carol, Funhouse is awesome!! I may need to rethink and consider a trawler..... Wow.
To the Annapolis and Newport News folks a pleasure. John and Betty expect a brief write up of Pittstown Point and some pictures. Perhaps we can make a future edition. Ed really enjoyed taking plane talk. An unexpected bonus.
So that sums up our first real chill day in the Abacos. Time for another nap 😴
