Still at Eureka, CA
30 September 2013
Storm has blown through; last little squall at about 4 am. We planned to cross the bar and exit the harbor today. Once we got out there we could see that the waves were breaking over the bar it about 15 feet. This would be enough to stop our our little 20 tons in her tracks, so back in we came. It's a well appointed harbor.
We shopped a bit in town for provisions, so rack of lamb, fresh pasta and cauliflower with hollandaise for dinner and more waiting. They have a NOAA office on the island where we are docked so Hal and I stopped by and they showed us around. They have it all, satellite, weather buoys, ship report and oodles of projection models. Gave us the forecast with :1100 tomorrow being the first and earliest time to hit the bar. No one is moving today.
We will stop by again at 0900 to get the latest, and if viable, we will take another look and start south, we hope. The wind will be shifting to the North and Northwest which is favorable for us. But the waves will still be up around 12-15 feet with 12-15 second period, so still pretty rough. Systems are working fine. We have been running up to 48 hours straight on the engine. She is a sweet machine.
