The Great World Championship Bathtub Race has been the epicenter of summer tradition in Nanaimo for more than 50 years. Tomorrow is the 54th race with more than 200 "tubbers" competing in every type of watercraft. The route is 58-kilometers in ocean water. The weekend festivities start with an Arts and Crafts fail in Maffeo Sutton Park (ocean front with food vendors, a children's craft tent, and a kids Karnival. There is al I'mso a line up of concerts on Friday and Saturday. There is a zip line, street fair and a "Sails Past on Wheels Parade Saturday am featuring local clubs and several of the race competitors. We arrived at the parade early so we had time for a local tea specialty drink. We loved the parade....lots of bathtub competitors, bagpipes and more. We had lunch in the Old Town district and enjoyed ice cream cones in Maffeo Sutton Park near the Sway-a-Lana Lagoon.
