About: |
Captain Mark has sailed since 1976 and 1st Mate, Linda has sailed since 1981. We owned a Santana 27 sloop for 20 years in Southern California and Seattle, Washington. [...] After purchasing our current boat in May of 2017 to enjoy retirement, we quickly discovered a radically different and new lifestyle as liveaboards. We ditched our landlubber life in Wilsonville, OR to prep the boat for cruising down the west coast to Mexico, Central America and Panama. We are members of the Sauvie Island Yacht Club in Oregon.
In our prior life (the one where we worked), Mark was a financial services specialist and Linda was the director of a university art and culture program. We have two children (both residents of Oregon). Brian, a Network Manager at Columbia Distributing is married to Lanna, who runs a home business. Christine, a Senior Brand Strategist for G5, is married to Chris, a car salesman. Besides working on our boat, we have spent two years wedding planning as Brian was married in September, 2018 and Christine was married in May, 2019. At Christine’s Mexico destination wedding I crossed off an item on my bucket list……we all dived into the resort’s pool at the end of the reception (just like in the movies…..in our good clothes).
COVID changed our plans to sail through the Panama Canal on the way to the Caribbean. Instead of dealing with closed ports and quarantine we traveled to Asia, Mexico, Hawaii, California, and took a road trip to New Orleans and back. While we certainly enjoyed all these trips we are still hoping to spend lots of time sailing. This July (2022) we leave for the San Juan Islands to spend the rest of the summer.
For fun……..

THE VESSEL - Meet Ma Makani
Our home and our transportation to the places of our dreams!
Our boat, a 43 Jeanneau DS, was built to bluewater construction standards and has plenty of storage, is comfortable, and seems to have the right combination of features for our needs.
The interior has [...]
a large L-shaped galley, a comfortable salon, a large beam aft cabin with queen size bed and attached large head with walk-in stall shower There is also a large forward V-berth which we are using for storage. Our second head ( attached to the forward berth) had been converted to a laundry room with a small clothes washer.
Finally, our outside living room…… a large aft cockpit area with lots of seating and a foldaway table for daily eating and entertaining.
