Caught a Fish!
04 December 2010 | Bahia de Los Muertos
In order to reach our next anchorage before dark,we weighed anchor and were under way an hour before sunrise. Winds were light and out of the north (the direction we are going) and so it was another day of motoring. On the way we finally had a fish strike one of the lures that we have been towing and we had him hooked briefly before he got away. About two hours later, we had another strike and this time we were able to land what we think was a small bonito. It doesn't matter to me, though, after trolling lures for 3 weeks, we finally caught a fish! Lorrie did the honors of filleting it after I dispatched it of course with a nice conk on the head. Later after we anchored we cooked it up for dinner. The bonito has very dark meat and it's a little gamey tasting but being fresh was pretty good!
After anchoring, I took a swim and while in the water, took the opportunity to clean the seaweed growing on the waterline. I also noticed that the zinc had once again disappeared from the propeller shaft. This is the second zinc that we have lost since we began the trip. I donned a mask and snorkel and twenty minutes later I had it installed. This frequent zinc disappearance is a mystery.
