Journeying On

The summer has barely begun in Rhode Island and the mornings already seem to be cool, almost a scent of autumn air… How is that possible? There is so much to do. Each day seems to begin and end with a sense of having been floating on air, my feet barely touching the ground. “What is it like now, [...]

Passing Diamond Shoals off Cape Hatteras!!!

There was no warning... the day touting varying winds from the SE to SW, the sails trimmed in and let back out over and over to keep us moving as fast as we could, the engine called upon when we weren't moving fast enough. Offshore once more: SV Calyspo is heading north!

It seems endless, the need to keep pressing, keep moving, from one point to another, the whole world of details needing to be dealt with upon returning after so long offshore, after having completely detached from the world system. Yet, there is a dream state that wants to believe I would not reattach... [...]

Onward Ho- part 2

13 December 2015 | 41 39'S:126 34'E, weather update

Life here is heating up a bit...

just as I am approaching Tasmania, a very large storm system, 980pHa is going to cross my path... I have been emailing with Bob McD today. I have seen it on the world chart from Mike and Bob McD hadn't mentioned it yet...and today is the day. It is interesting to work alongside someone who has working weather models that I can't see...I am working off of the Grib file models...each of the models has their percentages of time that they are 'right on', 'nearly on', those times that they seem way off and they can vary widely as we all see when we see the 20 different colored lines of the predicted hurricane paths on the weather channel with each approaching storm.

So, based on the model that I can see here on board, the only way of avoiding the system is actually to stay in its south quarters..I have not done that before...so it would be a new thing. It doesn't seem that there is a northern way around it and there is a high developing in the Bight that will make it difficult for me to move to where I may need to be...

The storm tops out at 37*S... I will have a hard time trying to get back north in the NW winds... it is going to mean losing another week of maneuvering north and south... and it doesn't seem necessary.

It seems that if I go down to 45*S, the storm will pass in 12 hours as it is moving quickly and I will be onward with a great section of SW winds to move on across to NZ. The sea heights at this point on the Grib are to be 15' and the winds will get wild, but I can drop sail and hove to. ... We will see what the next days forecast brings. It can change dramatically as we have seen. I will hear back from Bob tomorrow as there is more accurate information regarding how the storm is going to progress.

I was just looking back through my trip progress in averages... I have moved very slow overall. The fact that my first trip had a very slow NAtl cross has made it seem normal.. I made 106nm/day in August, and in September, only 43*S the whole month, 80nm a day. And it was a long route...

So I am now thinking that I may not get back early... as I was plotting some numbers, it is looking like I will not make Cape Horn until late February, putting me near the Caribbean in very late April...Essentially coming north with the Atlantic rally time frame. Truth is, that will be a much better crossing in the home stretch and I am fine with that. This 'record' is a nonstop one, will be the fastest just because it is nonstop. Certainly, there shouldn't be any date set for my return until I am well into the tradewinds north of Brazil, well above the equator.

We will leave the fast paced racing to the trimarans whizzing around the world right now averaging 28kts. Bob has been watching them... They are covering a weeks woth of mileage for me in one day...one day!!. That is incredible...just to imagine that you are moving faster than all these storms and dodging them like downhill ski slolam bars... staying on the right ridges and flying with the winds... One of these days I would love to experience it..you never know.

What a wonderful yuletide fulfillment I am experiencing... what a life path. I am so relieved inwardly this Christmas, as my Being is at home within my inner body, tucked into oneness with God Consciousness. I am excited as I feel a resurgence of life energy to be on the sea, to be amidst my adventure as a sailor now...interested in my sailing, no longer so distracted by my restlessness and searching...I am found.

I just picked up... The Soul of Leadership... again. I read it early in the trip. I think that it is the only book I have on board that actually depicts a positive way to transition into a new way of thinking and being, offering a pathway of how to second guess our initial reactions long enough to allow us to catch our self before we act on these impulses, then be able to allow a new response to emerge. Chopra gives clear ideas about working relationships and how to prosper in them as well as be a catalyst for the group to prosper taking a leadership role, not so much in heirarchy, but in the goal of furthering the overall vision ahead.

It has been such a transformation today, as I can easily nurture myself when I see my 'child', with support and love, respect and reverence...I am loving the word reverence as it is such a clear voice to me about my actions and responses. It seems so obvious, now, how to treat myself in respecting my God consciousness dwelling within me in oneness with me. And I enjoy Donohue's vision as he allows beauty to be the holy entity to be revered and cherished as it wants to be revealed in my life.

Captain Virginia Wagner is the one who introduced me to the 'f' word... on the Clipper City, in my first experience with sailors. It has fared me well in my expressions of anger and being violated...I am happy to let it go and not need it any more.

I so look forward to being home and around others to draw the beauty through me... but I am finding a way in my own presence to draw that same energy through nature increasing the flow... John O'Donohue is correct. It seems beauty in nature is such a catalyst for increasing my energy.

Keepin On, Sailin On a Dream... LIfe is new...a wide open space for the universe to move through... spiritual eternity... a full circle of learning to bring together.

"Waiting inside you is a level of silent being. It is the source of your awareness and womb of creation. All solutions exist here, as well as all possibilities. When you meditate and reach this level of yourself, something magical happens. ...a state of pure awareness..." Deepak Chopra in The Soul of Leadership.
