Journeying On

The summer has barely begun in Rhode Island and the mornings already seem to be cool, almost a scent of autumn air… How is that possible? There is so much to do. Each day seems to begin and end with a sense of having been floating on air, my feet barely touching the ground. “What is it like now, [...]

15 June 2016 | 35 00'N:75 05'W, Another wild few days ahead... deja vu.

Passing Diamond Shoals off Cape Hatteras!!!

There was no warning¬... the day touting varying winds from the SE to SW, the sails trimmed in and let back out over and over to keep us moving as fast as we could, the engine called upon when we weren¬'t moving fast enough. I was making breakfast when Bob went up on deck responding to a sound¬... next [...]

Offshore once more: SV Calyspo is heading north!

It seems endless, the need to keep pressing, keep moving, from one point to another, the whole world of details needing to be dealt with upon returning after so long offshore, after having completely detached from the world system. Yet, there is a dream state that wants to believe I would not reattach¬... [...]

the MISSING BLOGS: are coming

Hang in there... I am enroute to Florida to get my car... a busy week. I am getting the 'missing blogs' going. I just realized that I didn't write any blog the days I was knocked down...though Bob did an incredible job of keeping you updated and with the details...He was totally accurate and you all [...]

Donna
The winds came up out of the east as we got positioned to get into the Gulf Stream and I started to see higher and higher speeds¬... We averaged 8kts all night¬... incredible!!! So I am 47nm from Palm Beach inlet this morning, offshore from Hollywood about 10nm and with the winds settling down a bit, going 7-8kts¬... Wild¬... but true.

But I have to say that the forecast took a total 180 between the 14th and 15th..and the wind is now looking light¬... ¬'surprise surprise¬' from one filled with 10-15kt easterlies right up to the 19th¬... to all these light winds¬... and the front seems to be fizzling out to a mild cold front¬... so ¬... We will see what ¬'really happens¬'. I am over worrying about it all¬... I can¬'t change the winds¬... Even the Gulf Stream has disappeared north of Charleston¬... so.. so ¬...

So¬... I will have 11 days to do less than 1050 miles¬... and I should still have light, 10kt, but fair winds the rest of today and tomorrow in the stream¬... but then they start to vary¬...I will have a 12 hour becalm out there around Charleston¬... and then more 10kt winds¬... but from the E/ SE/, sailable¬...

So.. All I can say is ¬" KEEP YOUR EYES ON THE TRACKER¬"¬... my arrival will be a mystery¬... it iis still quite ¬'up in the air¬' as the blog suggested¬... by all normal terms I should be there by the 26th¬... a day ahead¬...

I will text folks in PB and LW as I pass them later this morning!!! I was able to send off a round of texts to let them know how close I am... it was wonderful to hear friends and neighbors¬' voices.

My battery power has now dropped very low, even the 15kt winds I should have today are not blowing and the wind generator sits idol¬... So¬... I have to apologize if the blogs seem to dwindle for now¬... at least until¬...¬'something happens¬'¬... the tracker will show my progress. I am going to be off sailing now¬... The events and arrival planning is all set to go¬... please do contact Tim Murphy if you would like to participate¬... and if you are going to be out on your boat in the bay the day I am arriving¬... We have lots of family who I would love to be able to be on the water that day¬... and we need to get my son Keel¬... out on the water offshore as I come in for a photo shoot¬...

When I return, I am going to begin to post the blogs that I wrote by hand after the knockdowns and loss of my satellite system... I wish I had more power to be typing while on board..but that is not in the cards for now...the photo is from the day I decided to take the turn for Panama... There is an amazing story that unfolds during those 6 weeks from near Cape Horn to Panama City... so along with watching for upcoming events for Sail Twice Around... you can catch up on the interim days at sea... I am excited to be revisiting those days as I type them out...

My emotions are tucked into my centering¬... if I dare to start to let them flow¬... I will be crying all the way to RI¬... So these next days of quiet and simply sailing will be my final time of incubating the life energy flow within¬... ready to be born, a butterfly escaping the cocoon that has been such a refuge for so long¬... I trust the birds will come and the dolphins find me, the whales and flying fish emerge from the sea¬... it is lonely here without them.

I can see the huge skyscrapers of the SE Florida coastline, 15miles away¬... each clumping of towers, another town I am sailing past. I am back in home waters, though the ocean reserves the right to always be created new each day¬... there is no sense trying to ¬'figure¬' out the sea; it has its own way, own flow¬... life energy bubbling within.

Keepin On Sailin On Caring¬... that very life energy flow is the healing and power of sustainable life, happiness, and the amazing abundance that is so available to us all in presence¬... I am tapping into it now¬... totally focused and un-distracted these last few days I have alone with Wise Mother Ocean on the sea¬... when you stand on the beach, no matter the ocean that flows up up onto the shore, know that the life energy that sustains the vast greatness of the sea is waiting for us to ask¬... to receive¬... all the beauty and love that is just stored up for us¬...waiting for us to listen and accept it¬...

I love you all¬... with all my heart. Fairest of winds and the love of the oceans Only Gratitude Donna

It was an incredible adventure crossing the canal, and having read David McCullough's book, the Pathway Between the Seas, I took as many photos as I could of this amazing feat of engineering and charismatic vision.
