As you can see there have been few posts here. i have started my own blog on another server so I could have more control over the look and feel of the site. i will maintain this one for now as i know I can update via SSB from offshore. I may be able to do that on the new blog but have yet to try it so for now I will use this if and when the time comes.

So please check out my other sites

Back in old slip

I have moved back to my old slip at Wilmington marine Center. This is the slip I was in for 3-4 years while restoring the boat. I have mixed feelings being here as I am stuck back in a corner or the marine. It is a good place to be to work on the boat but not a good place for a cruising boat. It has also been raining almost every day since moving here making it a bit depressing. I feel like I am living in the PNW. I listen to the cruiser nets on the ham radio every morning wishing I was one of them out there moving from warm place to warm place. Oh well just have to wait a bit longer. Teresa and I have set a leaving date of spring 2014 so not much longer and really lots of work to do before then to get ready. Just wish it would clear up and the sun come out again for more than a few hours. In the mean time I have been working on my web site www.projectboat.info and doing some writing. I have some work I need to be doing to Laurene but the weather is not helping with that. Hopefully next week will be better.

De-clutter

I have been trying to thin things out and set the boat up as if I was cruising. Sort of practice for when that day should come and I can untie the dock lines and head someplace new.
I think the biggest trick is figure out what you can live without. I t really is amazing how much I can hang onto that I really never use but which gives me comfort to have. There is a certain piece of mind in knowing you have something just in case. It tends to be the little things because they are easy to justify keeping, They do not take up space so why not keep them. The problem is they add up to a big box of stuff. And in a way are worse than one big thing because little things hide the stuff you really need. You know you end up digging through several boxes of crap to find what you really need.
I also suffer from forgetting if and where I have something. I end up spending a lot of time just looking for things. I used to be pretty good at remembering where I put stuff but that part of my brain seems to be getting a bit weaker as I get older. I prefer to think it is just getting more full of useful information and things like where i put something a few weeks ago gets pushed back in the darker recesses. Hey its my brain I can use any excuse i like!
Clutter also causes stress, it makes my mind work too hard trying to figure out where things are. There is something Zen like in less, a clean desk or living space have a more relaxing Feng shui. Same applied for the inside of the lockers.
Now I just need to figure out what I can live without!

More to come

I started this blog to write about my Bermuda trip but got so busy with getting ready that I let the blog go so never wrote about that trip. We did have a great trip this summer, my son and I along with a friend Mark. My daughter few out to meet us and we spent a week on the island before just David (my son) and myself sailing back.

So as it is a bit too late to write more about that. I plan to use the blog for my local sailing and life aboard until I can finally untie the dock lines and start some traveling. I will try to update at least once a week. Most of my repair work will be blogged at my own web site www.projectboat.info

Thanks

Hi I am opening this blog as I get ready for a trip from Wilmington NC to Bermuda and back.
I plan to do this trip in June 2012 with my son as a graduation trip for him and a chance for the 2 of us to spend some time together as he moves forward in life.
I will plan on bringing 1 additional crew with us.
This blog will be more general in content as we get ready and make the trip. Details of repairs will be on my repair blog at www.projectboat.info
Stay tuned for more.
