We sailed off the hook yesterday in Highborne Cay and has a bouncy sail in 20 knots of east wind. Spencer had the main up and without starting the motor he raised the hook and we ghosted out of the anchorage past large luxury yachts all of who eventually passed us later in the day to beat us to Nassau! Spencer unfurled the Genny and we were cruising along at 5.5 knots and then he put out our #1 Jib and it added a knot! Every time we sail and not motor we save between $50-70 a day!!! We were sailing NW and the chop on the banks was confused. Nothing like being out in the big blue of the sound, though. We were both glad that we had decided to take the banks side the day before. While we were sailing we realized that for security reasons and because the holding in Nassau harbor is notorious for being bad and it was supposed to blow like snot again last night we took a slip in Nassau Harbor Club Marina. We are loath to spend money on a slip but sometimes the prudent thing costs money! We were very glad to be tied up when we saw everybody swinging wildly in the current and opposing winds!
We immediately went to the grocery store right across the street and stocked up on frozen broccoli which has become our staple dinner veggie. I was shocked and pleased to see that they had a lot of organic and healthy products, but no organic spinach or celery, the two veggies besides lettuce I will not compromise and eat without them being organic.
More shocking was the Starbucks right outside the marina! It was a little surreal. After having been to the edge of the world or the edge for us being thrust back into "civilization" just by walking through a door was quite a shock! But not too shocking since I am here typing this without hyperventilating or something!
We were going to wait and see about the weather, but it looks like the captain has decided to continue on this morning to Royal Island a cay off Eluthera. It will be a good anchorage for the NE winds that are forecasted, but it might be a plowing into the wind and waves to get there. *SIGH*. The weather looks good for a Gulf Stream crossing on Saturday or Sunday with winds from the SE, but I want to check the swell. There can't be any north component. I will have to put my foot down about that!
Sorry we kept y'all waiting so long for updates but we had not had Internet for so long!
