Shallow water
14 January 2012 | St. Catherine Island, GA
Sunny and FREEZING...(45 degrees?)
Tied up in cattle pen creek in 7' of water. We draw 5'6" and anticipate we will be on the mud at about 5:45--for about an hour. We kept to the inside passage. We had an option to head out to the Atlantic but with a night of expected 30 degrees with windchill we just weren't prepared for 'arctic' sailing. It is supposed to warm up to the 60's and 70's so we will continue to wind our way down the rivers and creeks of Georgia.
We passed two of the most challenging parts of the ICW--- hells gate and the florida pass. Soundings were consistently 10' and did i mention it was cold? We saw dolphins throughout the day.
Saint Catherine Island is home to gazelles, Madagascar turtles and parrots. so far we have seen none of these. Birds are prevelant. Oysters line the beach.
