Friday, October 26, 2007 - Great Snorkeling
26 October 2007 | Mana Island, Fiji
Don
Some European tourists I had met ashore accompanied me on a snorkeling trip this afternoon. We circumnavigated the island in my inflatable, stopping here and there to dive. Besides many species of brightly colored coral, we saw a white tipped reef shark, giant trevally, spotted sting ray, and hundreds of reef fish. The visibility was quite good in places and most of the coral was alive. Everyone had a fabulous time but I am afraid some will pay for it with a bad case of sunburn.
Dinner will be on shore tonight. It is not worth cooking when a decent buffet costs only $3.50 at the backpackers lodge. A similar meal at the fancy resort is at least $30. I guess I am getting cheap in my old age, but I know value when I see it.
All else is well onboard. The weather has been excellent with a fresh breeze during the day to keep the boat cool.
