Haul Out Day

"I always feel like The Ghost from Christmas Past when we do this exercise of hauling the heavy chain out on our side deck to rinse it and let it dry." On our primary alone, we have 200' of chain and 120' of rope. Then our secondary anchor has 200' of rope and 30' of chain.

Getting Ready to be Hauled Out

We enjoyed a lovely leisurely couple of days sailing down to Grenada from Bequia, arriving on Palm Sunday.

Grenada's Cruiser's Net

The cruiser’s net in Grenada is always very lively. On Safety and Security this morning we heard that a sailboat coming up from Trinidad had a boatful of eight ‘Venezuelan looking’ men trying to overtake them. The sailboat was able to get away,. but the hull is riddled with bullet holes. They [...]

New Way to Clear into Customs

How do you clear in to Customs, when you arrive at a port and don’t feel like blowing up your dinghy?

Teaching William some Notes

I realized that if I set up my piano early in the morning, then I can play before there is too much sun in the cockpit.

Paddling around Bequia

As my buddy Joan Dwyer would say, “the goal in paddle boarding is to avoid looking like a little old lady pushing a Wegman’s cart.” Actually, I’ll be doing that soon enough as we are heading home in a week.

Moby's French Lessons 101

25 April 2018 | Tyrell Bay, Carriacou
Caroline
Moby, here’s a good phrase for you to learn. Repeat after me:
“Est-ce qu’on peut faire du cheval?”

Oh, and here’s another must-know phrase:
“J’aime danser. Ou est-ce qu’on peut aller danser? Est-ce qu’il y a de bonnes boites de nuit? Le danser, c’est ma vie.

Moby, who is TOTAL engineer had decided that maybe he needed to pick up a little French to be able to get by on his own on the French Islands. Sort of a fun opportunity to teach him phrases that he would never use in a million years.
(For the record, he once told me that he would sail through another tropical storm rather than to EVER get on a horse again, and dancing is absolutely NOT his life.)
In general, we have found the French sailors we have encountered do not seem to have a sense of personal space. More times than not, they have anchored practically on top of us, and then strutted around their boats in their whitey tighties or buck naked.
“ S’il vous plait, monsieur, vous avez abaisser votre ancre trop trop prés a mon bateau.” He wanted to add le F-ing Français to spice it up a bit, but I don’t know how to translate that.

In terms of relationships, Moby, here’s all you need to know:
“Je suis d’accord.” (I agree with you)
“Tu as raison!” “Je suis entièrement de ton avis.” (You are right. I entirely agree with you!)

But only say that to me. 
Since it is a little hard to envision Moby actually ever saying that to me, I decided to stick in a sunset picture instead. Sunset shot taken in Carriacou before our final sail to Prickly Bay, Grenada.
