Dawnielle - A Female Perspective

07 May 2015
Ok, now a female's perspective...this is my first offshore jaunt and it's been a great 'milk run'. Yah for the calmer milk run sailing!
> Yes, we love this as much as the guys...maybe...but let's be realistic...at night, we sit alone and watch the small compass course screen, the wind, the waves, hope the sails don't flog or get overpowered, and look forward to calling the guys back on deck. We even secretly hope that by some miracle we'll have sailed extra miles...nope! Still 2000,1500,...to go. Who sails that far? Oh, we are! When we told the guys, "if the boat goes off course, we turn the compass dial really fast...like a video game!" . The look on their faces...wow! We were joking guys, we're very focused...maybe too focused staring at the compass. One more night of watches and I must say...Wooo! Hooo! .
> As a ritual at sunset, every night for 25+ days, we look for this 'illusive' green flash! No...not tonight, so we keep sailing. I think we've been tricked!...or aren't hallucinating enough yet? Yes, it's been relatively calm, but we're still in a moving house... It's always a guess as to what will fly across the cabin next? The cut potatoes, chicken, can of sauce, their beer, rum (oh no!), or ALL of it at once! We always calmly get out the towels, pick up the food (rinse it of course - ha!), then continue. Flexibility is a character trait! And if it happens to be salt water, a flying fish, or a squid in the berths...well...hope it dries and doesn't stink!
> It's be awesome, great insights and I'll never think an anchorage is too 'rolly'...it'll seem normal. Where else can you have amazing chefs, brownies, watch True Detective (my eyes cross), have a shower, and get a continuous abdominal workout while trying to walk straight...and move across an ocean...slowly...all at once? Oh, sailing...that's why there are heaps of yachties!
> Thanks for the opportunity! We are ecstatic to see these islands that they say are nearby...somewhere... Oh no, Have I been tricked again? This experience does confirm...I'll keep sailing!
