Wed Mar 29: We left Blue Haven marina on Provo, Caicos Islands at 0700 with two big power boats being led by the pilot boat. This pilot actually took us out of the marked channel to give us deep enough draft in one area for our boats so it was an even better trip out than in to the marina. No problems and we were on our way. It was about a ten hour sail to our first Bahama island, Mayaguez. Given we need 6.5 feet of water at least for our boat we had to anchor on the west end of the island.
Thu Mar 30: We needed to dinghy to the east end of the island to the government offices to check into the Bahamas. We had to weave around the shallow areas so that added even more time to the trip. It took us about 1 hour and 45 minutes to get to the east end. We had a great time ashore though. There are only 250 inhabitants. After checking into the country we walked down the road a bit into 'town'. We stopped at Reggie's Variety Store to buy some water to have with our picnic lunch we had packed. What a nice fellow Reggie is. As we were talking to him he volunteered to get us someone to drive us to the point to see the flamingos. When he heard we were from California he looked surprised and told us to wait a minute while he walked into his house. When he came back he told us about a friend he had made who was from California, named Dennis Marshall, who happened to be visiting right now. Dennis M. came out to meet us and further conversation uncovered that his wife grew up in Santa Barbara. So we shared contact info so we can reconnect when we get back to California. So amazing!
Reggie asked Dennis M. to give us a tour, including the walk along the beach to see the flamingos. Upon returning to town we ran into the other cruisers on the one other boat that had been in the anchorage with us the prior night. Turns out it was the young couple from Sweden that had been in the marina right next to us in Sint Maarten. What a small world.
Tomorrow we are moving on to the Plana Cays. We will celebrate Dennis' birthday anchored on the south of the West Plana cay for the night.
All's well aboard. Having a grand time with the Burns.

2008 we did our third Baja Haha rally. This time our crew were all Santa Barbara Sail and Power Squadron members. There were 5 of us aboard for the trip down; 3 brought the boat home.
