28 April 2017 | Jardines de la Reina, Cuba
Virginia and Dennis Johns
We arrived at the Jardines on the southeast coast of Cuba about 0600 this morning and anchored outside. Later today we will scope out the depths and see if we can make it inside with Libertad or explore in our dinghy. Sweetie is a cat, draws only 4 feet (we are 6.5 feet), so they will go ahead of us and let us know how it looks for our draft.
After exploring a bit here we will go west to Cien Fuegos to do our official check in and explore Cuba mainland before then heading south towards Panama. Our route has changed. We are not going over to the Yucatan Peninsula and along the Central American coast as weather there is rough right now. We will go more directly south to Panama, making stops where we can at land along the way, probably Caymans and Providencia (an island out from Nicaragua that belongs to Columbia).
The latest estimate on our freighter pickup is May 25-30 so even earlier than the June timeframe we were originally given. We are happy with that as we have numerous family events happening in June that we don't want to miss.
All's well aboard.
