Sailing to Los Aves, Venezuela

29 November 2007 | Aves de Sotevento, Venezuela
The night before we left Bonaire a flock of pink flamingos flew overhead at sunset - what a site! We set sail the next morning, December 3rd, for Los Aves, motoring all the way as the winds were on our nose. We anchored just inside a barrier reef with 3 shipwrecks visible from our boat, incredibly clear water, beautiful snorkeling, and only a few other boats in sight. I climbed up the mast & sat on the spreaders to help us navigate thru the reefs - great view from up there! We wanted to stay here for a week or so, but within a few days got a report of an excellent "weather window" for our 3-day crossing to Puerto Rico, so we made plans to leave. We vowed to spend a few weeks here this spring when we return to the southern Caribbean.
