Back to Kekova (19-21 June)
21 June 2018
From Finike we returned to Kekova to spend a couple of days relaxing and swimming at Gokkaya bay and Woodhouse bay. Both bays provided good shelter from the strong afternoon winds gusting over 25 knots.
Today we had a very short sail to the ancient town of Kale Koy. This pretty little town has been constantly inhabited since 4th century BC. The water front is lined with family run restaurants, each with their own jetty. We have moored at Likya café where we will meet our friends Bram and Bea for dinner. Bram manages the maintenance of our yacht. We are looking forward to a fresh fish dinner, the restaurants all advertise live fish and lobsters, which are kept in cages adjacent to the jetties.
We spent the afternoon walking up to the castle at the top of the hill. This is a steep climb, with industrious locals lining the path selling home-made goats milk ice-cream, fresh orange juice, home grown dried herbs and assorted trinkets. The view from the castle is amazing, you can see the whole of Kekova Roads, as well as hill tops dotted with stone Lycian tombs.
Lots of gulets visit Kale Koy to bring day trippers to visit the castle. The jetty for the gulets is very small, only fitting two or three at once. It was interesting to watch them juggling for positions in the windy conditions. Lots of yelling and gesticulations!
As we are sitting here at 5pm, and the gulets have gone for the day, we are currently the only yacht moored here. Looks like it will be a very quiet night for the restaurants.
