Bert terHart's Epic Journey

Bert, a resident of Gabriola island, BC, left Victoria on Vancouver Island for his lifelong dream of sailing single-handed around the world, west to east, via the five capes, using only celestial navigation, and all in seven months.

So hard to say goodbye

So hard to say goodbye

I had hoped to be on my way by Friday at the latest. The wind gods, however, conspired to turn that into an impossibility. The wind just won't let up enough for me to get my ground tackle back on board safely by hand. By hand I mean just that: yarding the stuff off the bottom manually. The windlass was decommissioned for sea.

The weather north and east of the Falklands is anything but inviting so being pinned in the harbour isn't so bad. I am anxious to get going east but not at the price the wind and sea are asking offshore just now

Meantime, I am fixing, inspecting, fretting, and fussing over all manner of things big and small. The latest being the Iridium Go external satellite antenna. It has decided it likes Stanley too and wants to stay.
