Sea Child has been sailing the seas, working the challenges that have come our way. Late yesterday afternoon, we put in a triple reef in the main and hoisted the storm jib. All through the night we saw winds in excess of 30 knots and at times over 40 from the West, with boat speeds averaging over 11 knots. The seas are of course very rough, and if we were going to find any leaks in Sea Child, now would be the time! Our appetites have returned as we become accustomed to the motion of the ocean, and we look forward to a respite from these super strong winds. According to the Grib files, we should see these strong winds for another 24 hours, then easing as we sail into the tropics.
Tonights meal will be a welcome shepherds pie and salad. The lettuces appear to be holding up, yet it is challenging when the waves hit the boat hard causing things to jump off counters! Onward ho, we sail toards Fiji!
